The eye is the jewel of the body. -Thoreau

She's awake! While visiting today, Morgan decided to show us what her eyes look like, beautiful. She is getting much stronger and we are told is spending time during the day looking around checking things out. Isn't she cute!

Morgan began to have some trouble breathing after a brief feeding today and needed quite a bit of immediate help. With one word, our nurse set in motion an amazing sequence of events which included 2 Neonatal Doctors, 2 respiratory Therapists and several NICU Nurses. All I can say is that it was amazing to watch this team work together with hardly a word in effort to "fix" Morgan. My respect and admiration for these people increased exponentially today. As parents, this was the most concerned for Morgan we have been, it is not easy to watch your child lose all color, not breathe and watch her vitals drop. Turns out, Morgan has been making lots of really thick mucus which gets stuck easily. It was this mucus which triggered her issues today. Once removed, Morgan recovered very quickly and looked good. She is now on antibiotics to help reduce this mucus. I would not with this experience on my worst enemy.

All things considered, she is doing very well and continues to get stronger and bigger every day. I will be posting more pictures on our website soon.

Moving on up, or is it down?

Todays big news is Morgan's move from NICU Level 3 to Level 2. Big news as it means she is more stable. She has been off the ventilator since 9am yesterday and is breathing well. At this point she is only getting a bit of oxygen to help her out while she gets stronger. Exciting news only a parent or NICU Nurse could love, Morgan finally had a bowel movement yesterday. We'll just say she has been much happier since and taking in more milk! She is still learning to coordinate her swallowing movement, so feedings have been via tube. Below is one of the few pictures of Morgan with no contraptions on her face, enjoy!

The Family is Growing

On Thursday night, we welcomed Morgan Mackenzie Adrien into our life. She was born at 10:34pm, weighing 5lb 4oz and measuring 18.5 inches. In an apparent tradition, Morgan was taken directly into the NICU for care. I guess you might say Jill and I are fortunate in that we now know what to expect from these complications, for this we thank Kaylee. In the several days since she was born, Morgan has made significant progress. Today the nurses were able to remove her from the ventilator and she is doing well. While visiting today, we gave her a pacifier for the first time which she actually sucked on a bit. Great news! She is having a bit of trouble swallowing but she seems to be starting off a bit stronger than Kaylee. Here is a picture for today and a link to all the photos thus far.
